Camp for blind people in Balatonföldvár - July 2021

Between July 9-16, we organized our camp for blind people in Balatonföldvár with the participation of 60 people. We are glad that with the alleviation of the epidemic situation, a small team of American volunteers was able to come, who were of great help to our - otherwise expanded - Hungarian volunteer team.

As part of the morning and evening devotions, we prayed with the participation of the participants, studied the Bible under the guidance of experts in theology and faith practice, and the blind were able to testify of their faith. Seven blind people in the camp accepted Jesus as their Savior and the three renewed their relationship with God.

Music was an integral part of these devotions. The musical curiosity of the week was the interactive activity of the Invisible Theater.

Thanks to the great weather, bathing in Lake Balaton could not be missed either, which seems natural to sighted people, but to make a beach accessible to a visually impaired person and to make it safe is not an easy task. With the help of our volunteers and specialists, we also solved this, gaining an eternal experience for the campers.

One of the most special programs in the camp was the introduction and testing of Baseball for the Blind. With the help of the coaches of the Érd Baseball and Softball Association, the campers were able to learn and try out how to play this sport, which is becoming increasingly popular throughout Europe. Nothing proves the success of the show better, as several visually impaired people have joined B4B in Hungary since the camp.

Sailing at Lake Balaton in the summer sunset - with the help of our specialists. This was also what the campers could experience. It is not an everyday experience for both the sighted and the blind people.

Most of the blind are particularly fond of craft occupations. During these occupations, they can create souvenirs in the creation of which they themselves experience. In addition, with the help of adapted board games, we have allowed sighted and blind people to experience the joy of playing together.

The camp was beyond our expectations in many ways. This is true for the participants, to their enthusiasm, both the participants and the volunteer helpers enjoyed and waited for the programs. By the end of the camp, the entire team had become a liberated, dissolved, and united community.

We will continue in the same place next year!
